Large-Flowered Beardtongue (Penstemon grandiflorus)
Large-flowered Beardtongue brings a striking, upright presence to the garden with tall stems topped by clusters of lavender-pink tubular flowers. Its narrow, pointed leaves form a tidy, architectural base, letting the flowers rise above the rest of the planting.
Planting it alongside the more compact Hairy Beardtongue (Penstemon hirsutus), which starts flowering a few weeks before Large Flowered Beardtongue does, gives you ~7 weeks of penstemon blooms, carrying from late spring into early summer.
